Project Selection My Decision

For this project I have chosen to do the Newspaper/Magazine project. This project would be way more interesting for me rather than doing a film. Doing the film would be difficult for me because i'm not very good at acting and i'm not good at filming videos. The skills I posses to make the Magazine project are photo editing and the layout of the pages. The genre of the Magazine would most likely be about sports. The project will be done in a group. The roles of each member will be to interview one sports player and ask them about what they are planning to do in the future. Different group members will be doing different sports articles on the ones they enjoy. The magazine will have and ESPN type of layout. The Magazine will be named Sports United and the mascot is a sea otter.

Project Selection Film

Based on my experiences so far on print journalism  the things that interest me the most are all of the camera shots. All of the different camera shots show how the character is feeling and how the mood of a scene is. The angle that a scene is shot at can change the entire mood or view of the scene. For example in the newsroom they show close ups of characters to show the emotions of characters. One example is when Jim went to go and see Maggie to confess his feelings towards her and Don peeks his head out at the door to find Jim there. The camera then zooms into Jim's face because he didn't know how to react while Maggie's boyfriend was there. If the camera was shot at a different angle this could have caused the scene to have a completely different mood, but with the camera shot shown makes Jim look very uncomfortable and doesn't know how to react. With this project my best skill would be editing the videos so that all of the scenes run smoothly. The most challenging thing I would have with this project is taking the camera shots and recording different scenes because sometimes my hands get shaky and I can not film the shot properly.

Project Selection Magazine

Based on what we have learned so far in class I would be more interested in doing the  magazine/newspaper project. The newspaper shows very interesting information and facts about a topic and can persuade a readers opinion on a topic. When we did the Magazine Analysis assignment in class I enjoyed looking at the format of the pages and how they placed products and advertisements throughout the pages. They advertised products were on each page while showing ads without over flowing the page with to much advertisement. The ads were placed in certain areas of the page to catch the readers eye and promote the product. The Media Analysis assignment also showed me how to edit a picture to fit the theme and format the Page. The aspects of print journalism that interest me the most are things such as editing and formatting pages for all the information to not look condensed. I enjoy using Photoshop and can do many things on it such as cropping pictures and mixing pictures. One problem I might have with doing a magazine is taking photos because I am not that good with the proportions of the image and how close or far I should be from the object.
